Among other responsibilities, he participates and represents Spanish interests in the development of foreign and domestic commerce policies. He is the Spanish member of the Trade Policy Committee of the European Union (TPC) and a member of the Trade Commission of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. He has previously been Head of the Economic and Commercial Office and Coordinator of the Trade Area in the Permanent Representation of Spain for the EU, and also served as Economic and Commercial Counsellor in the Spanish Commercial Office in Washington and Helsinki.
